In one of his essays, Korean poet Eun Oh described a time when he saw two early elementary school friends playing a game on their phone.
After each loss, the English words "you failed" appeared on the screen. Curious how much English the little ones understood, the poet asked if they knew what "you failed" meant in Korean?
They replied right away, saying that it meant "play another round."
Though the young Korean students didn't know the literal translation for "you failed," Eun Oh was inspired by the realization that their instinct to take "you failed" to mean "play another round" was a wonderful interpretation for all of us.
Many thanks to Yozoh for this gem.
so sweet. yes yes. Thank you.
“Play another round”….yet to my mind-important to learn from our mistakes!
“Doing the same thing and expecting a different result” is said to be a definition of insanity.
Failure is the pillar of success is another saying. Could also mean-don’t give up!
